Religion. It’s a massive concept that has always been part of recorded history, wars have been fought over it, millions have been slaughtered but lately, in our modern modern modern western civilization, it seems like religion is slowly become less relevant when it comes to tradition ideas of it. Churches are slowly emptying, the church-goers seem to be getting older and nobody gives a shit. Why should they? The newer generation have no influence in participating in any religion as they don't need to. It seems like religion was such a big part of everyone's life throughout history because people needed faith and hope. When you had to work on a farm all day with little food and little time for anything else, religion was always there for you to boost your moral and hope for life to get easier.
Do we need hope (in a god)?
Since modern life is always technically “easy” when compared to history, physically at least, what is the point of participating in religion? We don’t fight in any wars, we don’t have to kill or grow our food or get clean water. All we do is be influenced by the people on our phones, you could say that peoples religion are celebrities or shoes or brands or fictional characters, you don’t see the popular (celebrities, musical artists, etc.) as a person as valuable as you or me. They are deluxe to you. A god. But that's a different subject. If people don’t need to hope for a better life because their life is so easy, when it comes to their physical resources and reality, do they need to abide by gods rules? If we hate so much of life and it's problems why do we want an afterlife?
Another thing influencing the death of religion is the internet; no matter what you search or the way you search it, someone will always be there to hate and stomp on it. When people were spending their hours of the day labourously tending to their farm of wheat in ancient greece, looking up to the skies to seek faith, a mythical hero, they did not have the convienience to simply have all the perspectives, all the facts. Christians can now quickly and easily see who hates christianity and why! Muslims can now quickly and easily see who hates islam and why! And it's all free of charge. It was more easier and more accepted to just follow the path of your society, close your mind and trust in Zeus or whoever to give you strength and a better life. Can you blame people for doing this? Can you blame us for slowly killing religion unintentionally?
Religion was a great tool in history for many aspects of life, -ish.
Most large religions constantly promotes the idea of self improvement. Mindlessly improving yourself but you will never be perfect. You do this for a more “meaningful life”. Is that what people want? Should we always try to unnaturally improve ourselves to a unrealistic expectation or
just stop caring...
and let life go on?
"I look up to heaven only when I want to sneeze."
― Ivan Turgenev
Is a god the only way to a better life? Define “Better”, “Worse”, “Good”, “Bad”. Those 4 words are multi-dimensional based on who you ask. Just let life roll, stop trying to appeal to a judging god and appeal to yourself. If god is our example of being good then why does Hell exist.
Is god not perfect? Is god not complete or satisfied?
I personally believe that there is a greater power, something we can't see or hear or ever interact with because we are too simple-minded. Something we will never understand. There is no proof it likes us or wants the best for us. A greater power looking down at humanity would probably hate us for what we have done. Stop trying to find a god in a reality where no creature is good enough to deserve one.
We are only human and we do bad things every once in a while, it’s the classic human nature. Humanity will repeat it’s mistakes over and over again until a complete destruction or extinction. Does god understand what it’s like to be human?
Now I may just be flat out wrong about all of this and it may be a bad thing religion is dying, but I may be right as well. Is there ever a right or wrong when it comes to a religion? We just need to simply stop caring and admit that if there is a god, should we spend our oh so precious lives appealing to it? Did it leave? Is a moral evolution coming or will the cycle of up and down repeat itself again?
